MDTM Entrepreneur Daily – 8.31.16

The Entrepreneur Daily series are blog posts that I write when I am working on my side business. My goal is to write a post every day when I am in “entrepreneur mode” and actively working on my business, talking about what I’m grateful for and what I’m working on. In a perfect world, that would be every single day, but in my reality, I work on my business in spurts. I’ve accepted this as my reality for now and hope to improve going forward. This is my entrepreneur journal, to document where I am today.

What I’m Grateful For

Today I’m grateful for college football. It may sound corny to be grateful for a sport, but I get huge enjoyment from watching college football and the season is about to start.

Games begin tomorrow night (Thursday), continue with a couple more on Friday, and then really kick off on Saturday. There are even a couple games on Sunday and Monday for this opening weekend. It’s going to be a barn burner, or as legendary announcer Keith Jackson might say, “Whoa, Nellie! We got a barn burner today. Let’s play football!”

I’m grateful for the excitement, for the pageantry, and for the weekend escapism, particularly because I live in a house with all women (4 daughters).

I love the big games, almost all SEC teams, some Big Ten and some Big 12 teams, with some Pac 12 thrown in there as well…I don’t even know if the conferences stuck with those names after all the recent changes, but that’s what I call them.

I always root hard for my team, Navy. I watch as many Navy games as I can find on TV, which is only a couple every year. I can’t believe they are starting the season ranked in the Top 25 this year…amazing! And the Army/Navy game is my annual superbowl.

So bring on the college football season. I’m ready.

What I’m Working On

I’m continuing to work on my real estate investing education, as I mentioned yesterday. I have several books on my night stand, to include my Kindle e-reader with books loaded.

I continue to work on my own personal finances, which is primarily focused on paying down my massive debt with the use of a cash-out refinance on my current home. I applied for a refinance loan about a month ago and I’m still in process. Fingers crossed that I get news tomorrow or early next week giving me an approved loan that can move to closing.

The refinance will allow me to pay off about half of my current non-mortgage debt and free up a tremendous amount of monthly cash flow for me. That one move will instantly put me on better financial footing, allowing me to breath and dig into real estate investing with a clearer mind.

Goals For the Day

The goal for today is simple…follow my daily checklist. Sounds easy, but I haven’t been following the checklist that I write out every day for the last couple weeks. I get some things done, but I don’t follow the pattern I lay out each morning. I’m also working on a specific process for that checklist…work for 25 minutes on one topic, take a 5 minute break, and work for 25 minutes on the next topic, etc.

I forget what that is called (25 min on/5 min off), but the idea is to help hyper focus on one topic at a time. I need some of that focus and feel that it will improve my productivity. I have written out my daily checklist in that format for the last two weeks, but have failed to follow the routine.

Today’s goal is to follow the routine I lay out for my daily checklist.
